Reflecting What Is

Project type

Fiber Art

Techniques and materials: Pieced and quilted; African & Indonesian batik and commercial cotton.

Artwork statement: Both Buddhism and Western psychology agree that what we perceive is only an interpretation of what exists (if, in fact, anything actually exists!) As I understand it, in some forms of Buddhism, a practitioner’s intention is to experience the world as it is rather than interpreting it through the concepts we have learned over time. On the other hand, Western psychotherapy is often aimed at helping clients reconstruct their experience in a way that offers them relief and perhaps a different (less painful or perhaps deeper) understanding of their experience in the world. Either way, such awakenings can be daunting, as well as beautiful.

SOLD: Purchased by the Evansville Museum of Arts, History, & Science for its permanent collection!
