Seeing Red
Project type
Fiber Art
Techniques and materials: Pieced and quilted reclaimed vintage Japanese cotton
Artwork Statement: Japanese textiles are among my favorite materials. Seeing Red was constructed of woven cotton reclaimed from vintage summer kimono (aka yukata) that were no longer wearable for one reason or another.
After visiting an exhibition of large, color field paintings by the midcentury American artist, Mark Rothko, I hoped to create my own interpretation of Rothko's iconic work in the muted colors of this irreplaceable reclaimed vintage cotton.
Seeing Red was awarded 3rd place in mixed media at the 17th Annual Juried Art Exhibit of the River City Art Association, Terre Haute IN August 2025
